Bats, Bugs and Breast Cancer

As many of you know my entire life revolves around animals, bugs and breast cancer. I just did the 3 Day 60 Mile Susan G. Komen walk this last weekend.
I am fortunate, I get to do what I love for work AND it benefits my life’s mission…fighting breast cancer. I have been involved in the 3 Day for 5 years now and it has touched my life in so many different ways. This forum is meant to be focused on my pest and animal business but they are so intertwined in my life that I have to write about both of them.

This last Thursday I was in a panic to not only get ready for the 3 Day that was starting pre-sunrise Friday but I had rehersal on Thursday since I had the honor of being asked to carry a flag into opening ceremonies. With about an hour and a half left before I had to leave, my friend Kathy called me and told me there was a large iguana in a tree in Clearwater and asked if I wanted to catch it…OF COURSE I DID!!! However….I was also on a schedule. After a quick self debate I decided to run and get it. These things are never as easy as they seem…It took about 30 minutes of wrangling it out of a tree and numerous whips to the head…but I got ‘em : ) And then off to the 3 Day!!!

It is wierd how often my work and my mission collide…I have more stories to come…

Raccoons From Clearwater to Chicago

Raccoons…or as I like to call them, “cooniemonsters” are amazing little creatures. Raccoons can be found nearly everywhere in the United States, even in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. I recall when I lived in the Chicago area, I found raccoons living in the chimney’s of a 5 story building. The animals would climb all the way up the 5 stories of fire escape then down 5 floors of chimney. I would shine my flashlight down the chimney and see two little eyes shining up at me.

In northern areas raccoons will walk along the roofline of houses pulling up shingles as they go. When they find a weak spot they tear a hole in the roof and proceed to live in the attic…normally having their babies there.

Raccoons make great moms too. During the baby season there are times when I will have babies without moms. I can take those babies and give them to other moms and they will take them…and even nurse them : ) Raccoons typically have 3-5 babies once, sometimes twice a year.
Raccoons are awesome fighters and can readily protect themselves but it is uncommon for a raccoon to go out of it’s way to attack.

Most pest control companies are not properly experienced in dealing with raccoons and the problems they cause. Creepy Creatures has dealt with hundreds of raccoons and can properly deal with your problem.

So next time you see a raccoon, give it some space and wish it well…or call Creepy Creatures : )

Got Roaches? Simple for Pest Control

The roaches…they are a’ ‘takin’ over…I’m often asked if it is true that when you see one roach that there are dozens hiding…is this true? Well, the answer is yes and no. The biggest factor is the type of roach. If you see one German roach, it is likely that you have many; and if you do not treat German roaches, they will take over….On the other hand, as a general rule…the bigger the roach, the less likely it is that there is a major problem. There are some roaches that simply wander into a house. Roaches are also one of those creatures that people often tell me that “You wouldn’t believe the size of this roach!!!” There seem to be all these HUGE animals and insects out there that are so big that I would never believe it…20 years and I’ve never seen these giants…maybe they know I’m after them ; )
The great thing about roaches is the products used to “remove” them now are HIGHLY effective and you have no idea they have been applied.
